audience feedback and ideas...

I done some research into what my target audience would like from a short film, they like to be teased in prior to watching the short film, to make them want to see the film more and more this was done with the release of "Batman, The Dark Knight Rises", they done teaser posters to keep the audience interested, exited and building the expectation of the film. Although I know that my film is no where on the scale of the type of film that Batman is, I took inspiration by there advertising techniques using viral and teaser ads. I talked to Elaine, Hamish and the rest of my class as they fit into at least one part of my target audience they all like Art house cinema. So therefore using there criteria for a short film and what they want from the genre I chose to do I revamped my 1st idea to fit with their ideas about what a short film should be like.

colour grading.

I have been editing sections of my film until I found the effect which i chose to use, I chose to use a blue/grey grading on the footage and I also increased the contrast and brought down the brightness, iI chose to do this because it creates a more bleak atmosphere for the film. The story line of the short film fits the style this creates. I took the inspiration for this style from the beginning sequence of the film 'The Book Of Eli' directed by the Hughes brothers in 2010. This films description: A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind. This is a close parallel of my short film, although at the beginning i did not use this film for inspiration i feel now that i have used this story line and effect subconsciously to create my short film.

Due to changing my idea in a completely different context i have decided to drop this idea as it would not fit in with my idea as i am not looking for that eary look, the reason i chose to do this is because i believe that my new idea for my short film is a better and more serious message. Creating more of an impact on the consumer by tackling a real issue.

FILM: How Should My Audience Respond?

when watching my film i would like my audience to feel:-Anticipation of the storyline and emotions / sad for the character / interested in what happened to him /questioning: who is the other person?

My research into audience types and interests suggests that my film is best suited to:
the young adult audience 18-25 regular film goers but yet to smaller independent film distribution site. Due to it being a short film it is unlikely to be scheduled into a main stream cinema complex: In Norwich we are lucky enough to have an art house cinema which would be suitable for screening my movie.

Summary of my plot narrative. (1)
Reece is a normal, every day working man, stubble, 6ft tall, thin, well groomed. He is in his house preparing to leave to find sivilisation, with deserted streets the world is dead with no feeling the dominant force has been wiped out. As time goes on he becomes more desperate to find people like him always questioning 'Am I the last?'. Time goes by he looses the will to live, finding a quiet, painless way to end his life. As he takes his last breathe the radio crackles with a vague voice.

Summary of my plot narrative. (2/january 2013)

Reece is a conventional young man, red hair, 6ft tall, thin, casual dressed. we see him going about his day to day life, He is in his house carrying out mundane tasks then leaving , with deserted streets the world is dead with no feeling the dominant force has been wiped out.  time goes on and nothing changes or does it?
I think this will engage my audience more and become a more successful short film because, because the enegmatic ending is more conventional to short films and will make the audience leave the cinema talking about what they have just seen.

T - day 49 of being alone,' its starting to become tedious unless i find someone today i feel its time you join         my family in heaven.'
C - mid angle of the man walking down the road alone, deserted.
C - close up of the eyes as he looks around for a place to go.
C - Eye line match with a pub or open house door ( depending if i can get permission to use a pub)
T - i have found a way to end my life painlessly and quick, after the illness nothing has been the same if there are any survivors on the other end of the radio please say now before i leave you alone.
C - close up on the pills( multiple pills to make it realistic)
C - mid shot ZOOM to close up of radio, a crackling and a voice comes through the other end.
C - black screen with the sound of pills dropping on the floor and crying sounds...

Having spoken to my teacher about this post I have noticed that I need to put time scales in to show how long I entend to keep the scene going in for.
We discused script writing and looked at examples and discused structure, I believe that this has benifited me because this has enabled me to have learnt how simple scripting can be if you know what you want within your film. its a good way to visualise how I want my short film to happen and in what time period.
